I have to say that after reading "Influence" I was very reluctant of reading this prequel story. Usually I don't read prequel stories because I'm not interested in them, but I'm glad I did the exception with this one.The short novella "Humanitys Protectors" takes you 30 years back from the "Influence" story, and this time is Leeyah the character who is narrating her present. She is as well an Influencer, but she works for the corrupted government (she doesn't know that though). When she refuses to do a task she's given by them, her reality starts to change, her rescuers' intentions are not the best, her family turns their backs on her, and only Sam is there to help her.
This is a short novella, but truly takes you into an adventure. I am looking forward for more already!
side note: My favorite part was Leeyah saying "My 'kind' is her sister".

While I'm not a big fan of present tense narrative, this one held my interest thru very few typos. I'll be reading more. Unique concept, nicely done.
I really enjoyed this book. Couldn't put it down. It sucked me right in. Please go ahead and give it a try!
While I found this book well written and I usually enjoy science fiction, this one just wasn't my cup of tea and I had a hard time finishing it.

Humanity's Protectors is a great prequel to Bernstein's Influencers. This book explains how the country fell so low. I enjoyed reading this book.
This book explained so much. How the war began and why the influencers got together in the first place. A wonderful kick-off book. I may need to re-read "Influence" now. Great read.
It's not that big of a deal, to read this out of order, but it may have been slightly better to read this one first. I find it interesting that the main characters are female, but the author is male- and he writes in the first person. I'm not sure that I've seen a lot of that done, but he does it well. The characters are believable. I'm looking forward to more.
SPOILER FREE REVIEW I choose this rating because i really enjoy this novella. It was fast paced. Easy to read. Very short also. There is a lot of killing and gory scenes, so if you are not into that you may not like it. Anyways this book i recommend for young adults. If you are looking for romance... Sorry there is none (which in my opinion I am happy about it. Lol)
Ps David Bernstein, if you are reading this... I am eager for Influencer #2 book to come out already!
